REVISITING THE PAST TO UNDERSTAND OUR FUTURE:
One of The 28ers’ greatest achievements, as organization aimed at getting private wealth out of politics, was getting The Yes Men to come to UC Riverside on Tuesday, October 6th, 2015 to premiere their 3rd prankster-documentary: “The Yes Men Are Revolting.” They showed the film and entertained attendee questions, and then–on the following day–The Yes Men put on an activist-clinic to teach students and community activists how to foment prank-projects to create awareness and shame those in power to change course through what they call “Identity Correction.” Their visitation to UCR was massively aided by our work with John Cook from the Sustainability Program as well as the student club, Sustainable UCR–both of whom greatly helped to gather the funds necessary to have Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bananno fly to Riverside to premiere the film at UCR.
Given the Current & Frightening Climate Situation With Two Massive Fires in California, The 28ers have decided to combine forces with 350 Riverside, which aims to ward off and hopefully reverse our downward trajectory into a full blown series of climate catastrophes.
DATE OF EVENT: Tuesday, AUGUST 28th, 2018
SCREENING SPACE: Universalist-Unitarian Church of Riverside
WHAT IS 350 RIVERSIDE?
350 Riverside is a countywide volunteer group of grassroots climate activists working to keep fossil fuels in the ground, limit emissions, improve air quality, and build a clean, equitable, zero-carbon economy. Like 350.org, 350 Riverside is building a movement that can hold our leaders accountable to science and justice. 350 Riverside works closely with other 350 local groups across the state, particularly SoCal 350, 350 Bay Area, and San Diego 350.
350 Riverside was founded in 2017, and since then they’ve focused on passing strong, state-level climate legislation such as SB 100. They’re also asking local candidates and elected officials to sign the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge.
You can contact them at 350Riverside@gmail.com or reach them through their Facebook page
Again, both 350 Riverside and The 28ers want to entertain folks for the occasion, but we also want to tell folks how they CAN TAKE ACTION. If you’ve read this far that means you absolutely have the time to call your assemblymember and tell them to vote yes on SB 100, a California state bill called SB 100, which would more rapidly transition our state into renewables faster their our current legislation demands. Just say “I’m a constituent and I want you to vote “yes” on SB 100 when it comes up for a floor vote.” That’s it!

THE YES MEN ARE REVOLTING: OFFICIAL TRAILER (2015)
BACKGROUND ON THIS DOCU-COMEDY:
Following “The Yes Men” (2003) and “The Yes Men Fix the World” (2009), “The Yes Men Are Revolting” (2015) is the third docu-comedy that Andy and Mike have done since forming as a dynamic duo. Unlike their prior films, which deal with mulitple issues and ideas, their third film aims to expose, expore and satirize entitites that are harming the biosphere. UC Riverside’s student clubs, The 28ers at UCR and Sustainable UCR, are proud to announce that THE YES MEN’s very own Andy and Mike will be in attendance. They will also jibe, poke, cry, or just irreverently mislead audience members’ questions during the Q&A directly following the film.
WHO ARE THE YES MEN?
The Yes Men are arguably the most famous and inspiring activists in North America, having made national news repeatedly for their activist-comedy stunts. Formed by Jacques Servin and Igor Vamos, The Yes Men rechristened themselves as Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bananno, respectively, to do what they called “Identity Correction.” The quality of their humor and satire can be traced back to the 1960s counterculture, The Yippies, but also to what is now called “Laughtavism.” To accomplish their feats of comedy-prowess, these culture-jammers impersonate people and institutions that are harming the rest of us, and in doing so, use lies to create a higher truth about corporate and government crimes. Their pranks and stunts involve costumes, tenuously believable accents and absurdly plausible business suits.
