——> Carpooling Google Doc Down Below:
Please join The 28ers on October 28th for a Canvassing Day and do some JUSTICE-KNOCKING by getting MARIA ESTRADA ” IN ! ” & Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon ” OUT ! ” of District 63. The current incumbent has chosen PROFIT over the PEOPLE by blocking SB-562, which would have created the nation’s first Medicare for All system (the Healthy California Act) in the State of California. While the future of the bill’s resurrection is uncertain, we have every right to make the Corporate Democrats in the Assembly PAY for their inaction in the deaths of thousands since the bill’s shelving on June 26th (in the Year of Our Corporate OVERLORDS) 2017. MARIA ESTRADA shows that she represents the people through her years as a community activist and advocate; Rendon, however, continues to represent Big Pharma and the For-Profit Healthcare system, as well as the many polluters, which have shortened the lives and health of this district in LA county. A “Brown Face in a Higher Place” doesn’t immediately mean that climate justice or healthcare justice occurs, but thankfully Maria can provide an anti-racist administration that knows and understands that “politics without economics is a symbol without substance.”
TRANSPORTATION & CARPOOLING:
To be light on the Earth & to deepen the spirit of camaraderie, The 28ers will be creating a google doc for folks that would like to carpool from other cities and areas. The google doc TBA below this:

Who Is MARIA ESTRADA & Why Is She Running?
“MARIA ESTRADA is a long term Community Advocate who was sick and tired of local politicians serving special interests versus being Public Servants. Maria Estrada advocates for Environmental Justice, Health Care for All, fighting corruption in local government, and supporting the low-income communities within AD 63 (Bell, Cudahy, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Lynwood, Paramount, Long Beach, Maywood, and South Gate).
Maria Estrada is endorsed by several groups such as American Indian Movement of Southern California, Our Revolution Long Beach, and the Progressive Democratic Club to name a few. But most importantly Maria Estrada is endorsed by the people she plans to serve.
District 63 has been poorly represented and I would like the opportunity to represent the people of the 63rd.
I am here to say that I would like the opportunity to serve the people of the 63rd, mi gente, and help right some of the wrongs that have been occurring in this district for decades. My parents are from San Buenaventura, Chihuahua, Mexico. They immigrated to California, worked hard, and eventually were able to purchase their first home in 1973 in Lynwood.”

AS FOR WHAT’S GOING ON WITH SB-562:
As of June 14th, 2017, House Speaker Anthony Rendon has effectively blocked SB-562 (Single Payer in California), while residents in our state continue to suffer or die (nine a day, in fact). Our organization has taken the lead in the Riverside County area in our fight for Single Payer–by not ONLY phone-banking for SB-562 and organizing four separate events in our community–but also caravaning up to the Sacramento State House to agitate and meet with our local state officials and demand that they enact the first Single-Payer Healthcare plan in America’s fraught history. And with Speaker Anthony Rendon’s decision to block SB-562 from moving onto the Assembly for a vote, we once again see the need to get money out of politics with exclusive public financing for all federal elections. America’s dystopian healthcare system–as seen with our fight for SB-562–is a warning alarm as to why money in politics prevents meaningful, compassionate and efficient healthcare system from ever taking root.
As the Old Occupy Wall Street Sign Said: “MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL POLITICS.”
WHAT IS THE 28ERS?
The 28ers is an organization that surfaced from the end-days of Occupy Riverside back in October of 2012. We have hosted and organized montly events for over 4 years–or over 42 monthly events–to raise awareness about the cancer of our democracy: money in politics. Most recently, The 28ers were heavily involved in Bernie Sanders’ Primary Run. While we are a post-partisan organization, we took the unsual step of endorsing him due to his Gold Star record for getting money out of politics, and from the fact that he also wrote his own 28th Amendment to sever private wealth from politics.
So what do we do now that Donald Trump is the President-Elect? There is a group organizing in Riverside called the Popular Front, and many actions have happened since Trumpster Fire’s inaugeration. Certainly, we should support and show solidarity to folks holding the barricades who want to protect the undocumented, immigrants, folks of color, entitlements like Social Security and Medicare as well as fight for a restored biosphere. But what about SOLUTIONS? There is, of course, Brand New Congress and Our Revolution, both of which hope to get more Bernie-inspired folks to run for local and national office in 2018 and beyond. On the local level, organizations like Open Source Ecology and Transition Town want to create radically free cities and townships. But to create a truly VISIONARY and INTERSECTIONAL PARADIGM shift, we must create a national movement to amend the US constitution, state-to-state, to forever sever private wealth from politics. The 28ers works alongside other visionary groups like Wolf-Pac and 99Rise, who have done amazing things to sound the realness bullhorn about money in politics. While these two organizations haven’t drafted their own amendment, we have did so over a 4-month process and offer up the most comprehensive Amendment that currently exists. To learn about our own 28th Amendment, feel free to check our website:
We would like to invite you to a meet and greet to learn about your experiences with activism, learn about our organization, hear our plans for growing new chapters in California and nationally, and taking the fight state-to-state for a 28th Amendment to create exclusive public financing for all federal elections.
We hope you’ll join us.
